C.J. Custom’s: Anne Summers

inspired by the Season Three premiere episode of the same name, in Buffy, The Vampire Slayer

bc-buffy-anne.jpg

Figure:
“Anne” Buffy Summers

Series:
Buffy

Recipe:
“Anne” Buffy is a repaint of Moore Action Collectibles’ first Buffy figure, with minor sculpting applied to make her jacket appear closed rather than open.

Accessories:
This figure included a Buffy “B” base and two curved blades.

Reasoning Behind The Effort:
This was a commissioned custom for my greatest customs patron, Mari Anne.

Additional Thoughts
This is certainly not the best version of this character I’ve seen. Fellow customizer Sasha did a superb version that was much better. However, I did the best I knew to do on the custom, using very specific parts requested by Mari Anne. She seemed very pleased with it; and as a result, so was I. (FIGURE COMPLETED IN SUMMER 2007)

C.J.’s Customs: The Crossover Buffyverse: Demonic Buffy

Blending Buffy: The Vampire Slayer and a demon

ebc-buffy-demon.jpg

Figure:
Demonic Buffy

Series:
Crossover Buffyverse

Recipe:
This figure was made by placing hair from a DST “Reunion” Darla Figure on the head of a DST “Chosen” Buffy. This head combo was then affixed to the torso of an Alyssa Milano figure from Charmed, with the legs of a DST Season 2 Darla. The wings came from a demon in the Palisades’ Army of Darkness line, and they were attached to the figure via an obtrusive, sculpted spine. Paint was applied liberally to get the figure “dark”.

Accessories:
This figure only came with a base.

Reasoning Behind The Effort:
This was a commissioned custom for my greatest customs patron, Mari Anne; and it was part of her full line of one-of-a-kind Buffy and Angel characters crossed with various characters from different universes including Marvel & DC comics, TV, Movies, and more.

Additional Thoughts
I won’t lie, the concept of doing a demonic Buffy figure was one with which I struggled. However, given the characters’ capacity for good and evil, as well as my making her “angelic” counterpart (found here), I figured, sure I can do it. Mari Anne was a great customer, and I had no moral qualm with the custom, just a lack of interest. So, it was completed and sent to her. I didn’t ever really dig it, but she seemed to, which is great. (FIGURE COMPLETED IN SUMMER 2007).

C.J.’s Custom: “Seeing Red” Tara

inspired by the 6th Season of Buffy, The Vampire Slayer

bctaraseeingred.jpg

Figure:
“Seeing Red” Tara

Series:
Buffy

Recipe:
This figure was made by gluing the head of a “Together Forever” Tara on the body of “Together Forever” Willow, then painting the figure to match Tara’s outfit in the episode, “Seeing Red”.

Accessories:
Tara included Ms. Kitty Fantastico, Warren’s pistol, and a “wood” base.

Reasoning Behind The Effort:
Had to use parts somehow, why not with another variant of Tara NOT in a dress (like all the standard, official DST releases).

Additional Thoughts
Tara’s one of my least favorite characters in all the Buffyverse. I’m amazed how many versions I’ve done of her over the years, and I can’t imagine why I would (I guess I can always go back and read the posts on them). Anyway, yeah, this was a parts-user, nothing noble or admirable about her. She was fully painted and as such was limited in articulation…wow, I really didn’t like this custom. I’m sure I pitched on ebay at some point, though I have no idea when, based on the quality of the pic, I assume it was during the spring of 2005. (FIGURE COMPLETED IN EARLY 2005).

C.J.’s Customs: Serenity Intro Simon

in his initial outfit from the film, Serenity

fc-simon-movie-open2.jpg

Figure:
Intro Sequence Simon

Series:
Firefly/Serenity

Recipe:
This Simon figure was relatively easy to make. I removed the head and jacket from a “Rain of Fire” Wesley, then added a “Bad Girls” Wesley head and “Beneath You” Spike Arms. I then painted the torso and sleeves to match Simon’s appearance in the show.

Accessories:
This Simon included a rifle, a doctor’s bag, a cash bag, a “Serenity” logo base, two medical tools, and two books.

Reasoning Behind The Effort:
I had made a Simon from the intro to Serenity long ago, but I sold him. This was my attempt to do him again, with some different accessories and so forth.

Additional Thoughts
Reading the above paragraph is hilarious, because after having made this one to replace the one I sold, I turned around and pitched this one, too. It’s one of those things where my love of Serenity and Firefly is very strong; but without having the full crew, I just don’t have much need for any characters beyond Mal. So, yeah, this was a good figure that I really wanted; but once I had him, without the other crew members, I saw no need to keep him. (FIGURE COMPLETED in FALL 2006).

C.J. Custom’s: Kate Lockley

inspired by the 2nd Season of Angel

ackate.jpg

Figure:
Kate Lockley

Series:
Angel

Recipe:
This version of Kate Lockley was done by placing the hair of a DST “Reunion” Darla on the headsculpt of DST’s “End of Days” Faith. This combo was the added to the body and legs of “Reunion” Darla with the arms of a “Welcome to the Hellmouth” Darla added and painted to match the shirt. The pants were painted as well to match Kate’s appearance in the show.

Accessories:
This Kate Lockley included a pistol, a cross, a purse, a sledge hammer, a notepad, and a book as well as a custom black base.

Reasoning Behind The Effort:
This custom is a bit of a mystery to me. It seems it as an early custom and my first version of Kate Lockley, though I am certain I also did a second, identical commissioned custom using all the same parts and accessories. Based on the way the figure is photographed, I think this pic is of the commissioned version, and I have no pic of the first version (though I would have had to have taken it at some point for the commissioning customer to see it). So, yeah, this figure was either my first attempt at Kate or a commissioned duplicate of my first attempt at Kate.

Additional Thoughts
I really dug this figure. She lacks a bit in the articulation department due to the heavy paint apps on the arms and legs, but overall I thought she was a fine customized version of the character. The likeness sure leaves a bit to be desired, though I remember being quite proud of it the first time I did it. My how our views of our own “brilliant masterpieces” change with time. (FIGURE COMPLETED AT UNKNOWN TIME)

C.J.’s Customs: “Graduation Day” Two-Pack w/ Angel and Buffy

inspired by the Buffy season 3 finale

bc2pckgradday.jpg

Figure:
“Graduation Day” Angel and Buffy

Series:
Buffy

Recipe:
These figures were so easy to make, they can barely be considered “customs”. The Angel was made by putting a DST Vampire Angel head on a “Graduation Day” Angel body. As for Buffy, I simply added red paint for wounds and blood to her neck and head. That’s it.

Accessories:
These figures included only a base and faith’s knife.

Reasoning Behind The Effort:
I made this a LONG time ago, and it was just a parts user at the time. The thing that made it work for my collection was that I loved the Buffy: Season 3 finale, and this was a cool statuesque piece from that episode.

Additional Thoughts
Yeah, these figures were my kind of customs–fully articulated and usable; but because they were parts users and also incredibly simple, it’s hard to really be proud of them. (FIGURE COMPLETED IN EARLY 2005).

C.J.’s Customs: Spike & BuffyBot 2-pack

Spike and Buffybot Two-pack

inspired by the 6th Season of Buffy, The Vampire Slayer

bc-spike-bot2.jpg

Figure:
Spike and Buffybot

Series:
Buffy

Recipe:
To be honest, only Spike is a custom here, the Buffy is an original DST release. The spike was simple, I put the head and forearms of a Season 5 Spike on the body of a “Grave” Spike, filing off the wounds and filling in any visible gashes with sculpty, then painting the entire torso to blend into a single skin tone.

Accessories:
The set included a Base, a shovel, Buffybot’s battery, Spike’s flask, Spike’s blanket, a poetry book, a stake, and a noose.

Reasoning Behind The Effort:
I had made several topless Spike’s and sold them. This Spike was made to fill void left by their absence.

Additional Thoughts
Apparently, though absence made the heart grow fonder, and presence made me apathetic. Whilst getting rid of many figs in late 2007, I took this Spike and added the extra Buffybot and accessories to sell as a “two-pack”, though I suppose it really is more of a single custom with an accessory. Oh well, it’s a two-pack, now! I dug the Spike but had no need for him in my collection, particularly since I had a “Grave” Spike that I loved. (FIGURE COMPLETED IN SUMMER 2007)

TOY MONTH 2008: C.J.’s Customs: The Crossover Buffyverse: Angel Kent

Blending DC Comics’ Clark Kent with Ensouled Vampire, Angel

ebc-angel-clark1.jpgebc-angel-clark2.jpg

Figure:
Angel Kent

Series:
Crossover Buffyverse

Recipe:
Angel Kent was a simple figure. I took the shirt and arms from a Pylean Angel and put it on a Season 5 Angel body, then cut the middle out of the shirt, so it would look open. I then painted the torso to look like a superman-esque Logo–only for Angel. I also used the hands from the Season 5 Angel and painted the cuffs on them to match the black of the demon’s shirt. Ta-da. Done and Done.

Accessories:
This Angel included a Custom “City Wall” base

Reasoning Behind The Effort:
This was a commissioned custom for my greatest customs patron, Mari Anne; and it was part of her full line of one-of-a-kind Buffy and Angel characters crossed with various characters from different universes including Marvel & DC comics, TV, Movies, and more.

Additional Thoughts
Angel Kent came out pretty good. Because of the figure’s limited articulation, the figure’s poseability is limited, and I’m not in love with the Logo–Mari Anne, however, seemed to really dig it, which makes me very happy. (FIGURE COMPLETED IN SUMMER 2007)

C.J.’s Customs: Season 6 Anya w/ Hair Down

Hair Down Anya

inspired by the 6th Season of Buffy, The Vampire Slayer

bcanyase6down.jpg

Figure:
Anya

Series:
Buffy

Recipe:
This Anya was relatively simple. I used parts from a number of DST figures, and they blended really well. The head, from a “Hell’s Bells” Anya, was place on the torso of a season 2 Darla, and that combo was then added to the skirt of a Season 5 Anya.

Accessories:
Hair Down Anya was meant to be a “shopkeeper edition” of the character, and she included a Magic Shop base, register, bunny, purse, sledgehammer, knife, cross, and assorted Magical goodies.

Reasoning Behind The Effort:
This was one of my earliest customs, when I really tried only to make new unique figures simply by swapping parts but not painting and sculpting. She was made simply because the parts worked.

Additional Thoughts
This Anya was a great figure that retained full articulation, looked great and was unique next to the Anya’s released by DST. I really dug her, though I sold her long ago. Good Stuff, nonetheless. (FIGURE COMPLETED IN FALL 2004)

C.J. Custom’s: “Once More With Feeling” Anya

inspired by the 6th Season of Buffy, The Vampire Slayer

bcanyaomwf.jpg

Figure:
“Once More With Feeling” Anya

Series:
Buffy

Recipe:
This Anya Figure was made by placing the head of a “Book of Vengeance” Anya on a body made from two Charmed figures, made from the torso from the Alyssa Milano character and the skirt from the Rose McGowan Character.

Accessories:
This Anya included an episode-and-name specific base.

Reasoning Behind The Effort:
I really like the “I’ll Never Tell” musical sequence from the Buffy episode, “Once More With Feeling”, and this Anya was a tribute to that.

Additional Thoughts
This is one of those figures that I really loved and had made simply to add it to my portfolio. I really had no place for it in my own collection at the time, though at one point I had desired a set of 5-6 “Once More With Feeling” Figures. Therefore, I sold it on Ebay, and I am sure that another collector who had been building a collection of customs from this episode adores her, becuae she did come out very, very well. Then again, for all I know, the buyer could have scrapped her for parts. (FIGURE COMPLETED IN FALL 2006)
