TOY MONTH 2007: Closing Thoughts

Well all, thanks for reading this last month. I know their were tons and tons of constant updates on little plastic men and my love for them. For those of you uninterested in this aspect of my personhood, I thank you for your willingness to participate, and I promise the toy to other content ratio will be much more balanced in the coming months.

TOY MONTH 2007: Customs on the Rise

Here are some hot customs I’ve been working on of late…

1) Robin Thicke (music) – Perhaps the most well-known artist of the Neo-soul movement, Robin Thicke is great artist. He writes his own stuff as well as a raft of hits for others; and his latest album, The Evolution of Robin Thicke, is one of my favorite albums of all time.

2) Musiq Soulchild (music) – Another of my favorite singers of the neo-soul movement, Musiq has been known on urban radio for hits like “Halfcrazy”, “Girl Next Door”, and “Forthenight”. I dig him, and I can’t wait to have a figure of him on my shelf!

3) Mim Stunkard (real life) – My Mom! I have a custom figure of my dad, and I needed her to compliment him as wives compliment their husbands!

4) The Beast (from the series Angel) – I need this figure to complete my “Rain of Fire” Angel Action Figure Set, so that I can finally post it. He’ll be more of a statue than a figure, but I am excited to finish him! I did one and sold him cuase I was unsatisfied with it, so I’ll be doing this one with the hope of him being much better.

5) Mad Martigan (From the film Willow) – This is easily Val Kilmer’s career role, and I love this character. I have the official Tonka Release, but I wanted a 6” scale figure to put with my other movie figures!

6) Prisoner Bruce Wayne (from the film, Batman Begins)Batman Begins is my favorite comic book movie, and the first act is actually one of my favorite pieces of cinema, ever. The training montage and the quest, and the running from home, all of it—even Katie Holmes. It’s all so good. Anyway, this is gonna be a figure based on his fight in an Asian Prison Yard.

7) Vincent vs. Neil 2-pack (from the Film, Heat) Heat is my favorite “cops & robbers” movie, ever. I love the characters, I love the story, and the downtown L.A. gunfight IS my favorite gunfight of all time. This set features the two main characters, portrayed by Robert De Niro and Al Pacino, going head-to-head!

8) Roadhouse Clay Set – It’s no secret that Roadhouse is one of my top 7 favorite films of all time. The quotes (“I reckon I’ll get enough sleep when I’m dead”), the fights (Terry funk body-slamming guys in a bar), the humor (“A bear fell on me”), and the Swayze (“Pain don’t hurt.”) make this film about as good as action movies get. This set of small 2.5” figures will include: Dalton, Elizabeth “The Doc”, Wade Garrett, Jimmy, Brad Wesley, Training/Battle at the River Dalton, and Jeff Healey. A second set should follow soon thereafter with Terry Funk, Emmitt, Red Weston, Tigger, and more. This clay set will be the inaugural one in a move from making custom figs to clay mini-fig sets, and I am excited to get started on it.

9) Grant McNeil vs Preston Scott (from Boys of Summer) – My first full-length feature is a movie called Boys of Summer, made with my best friends in Wilmington, DE in the summer of 2001. The project gave us scores of memories and a great final video project. This figure is a representation of the two main characters battling one another at the beach!

10) “Grave” Giles (from the series, Buffy) – The return of Giles at the end of Buffy: Season 6, is my favorite moment in all of Buffy lore. This figure is a representative of that, and he’ll be displayed battling Dark Witch Willow!

11) Ed Exley and Bud White in the Victory Motel(from the film, L.A. Confidential)
– This set will be a complete display, showcasing the surviving heroes of the brilliant L.A. Confidential.

12) Sting (from WCW) - Despite the proclivities of my boys back in Delaware, I really liked Sting during the WCW/NWO run of the late nineties. A lone warrior dressed like the vengeful Crow, Sting single-handedly led the attack against the NWO only to be beaten and whooped again and again. But he continued to fight them despite them, and I dug him for that. What he’s doing now, I don’t know; but this figure showcases his look during that time in Wrestling history.

13) Jack Carter (from the film, Get Carter) – Many people don’t like the 2000 re-make Get Carter. Frankly, I loved it. The solid performances from Sly Stallone, Mickey Rourke, Alan Cumming, Michael Caine, and more make the movie a really fun ride. Stallone’s character was great, and the action, while very unconventional, was entertaining and fun. Anyway, this will be a represention of that character.

TOY MONTH 2007: The Current Top 7.

Grace, Peace, and Thanks to each and every one of you. I call you on the phone with a survey and ask of you, “What are your favorite toys?”…However, you don’t recognize my voice; and believing I am a telemarketer, you hang up the phone. I would have done the same, so we’re still friends.

top-7-as-of-0307.JPG

(1) Koto Mace Windu and Yoda set - My wife picked this up for me for Christmas this year. I totally didn’t expect it; and when I got it, I was so surpirsed and excited. This is the only truly “High-End” model/figure set in my collection, and I truly feel it is a centerpiece of it. I love it.

(2) Sin City Marv - Marv from Sin City…this may be NECA’s best figure to date. This toy is awesome. The detail, the articulation, the acessories, and more and more. Yeah, he may not have all the joints people want, but for me, his pose is epic and statuesque that I’d never want to sit him down. This toy is so good!

(3) Die Cast Vader - My Wife bought me this figure as a Birthday Present, and I adore it. It’s Di-Cast Metal body make it appear to be wearing Actual Armor, and the display case is really great!!! If I had only one Star Wars Figure in the 3 3/4 scale, this would be it!!!

(4) Sigma Six Heavy Duty - The Sigma Six Figures from Hasbro are just fantastic. The articulation, the stylized look, the weapons–Bada-Bing I love these figures!!!!! Anyway, Heavy Duty was a huge, beefy African American with a chain gun, and he was the first of these figures I purchased, and to be honest, he is still my favorite! I love this figure!

(5) Sentinel - Yeah, I had to buy 6 other figures to get this one and put him together, but I sold them all, bringin his cost down to $20, adn he was worth every penny. This ultra detailed, massively articulated giant robot. What else could I possibly want…

(6) Armored Attack Troll - I didn’t love the Toy Biz offerings from Lord of the Rings, but they did no wrong in the Troll department. Their cave trolls are so fun; and this one, which is just a big rotocast monster with a club and removable helmet, is a perfect repesentation of the film counterpart. The only other thing I might have liked is for it to include a sword, but that is a personal desire, not a necessity. Again, another awesome figure!

(7) MAC Angel - Okay, this is a cop-out. I felt at least one Buffy/Angel figure in the mix of my top 7 figures because, next to Star Wars, the Buffyverse is the biggest collection of figures I have. I added a few extras to the figure, including interchangeable limbs and weapons, so he can a battle damaged vamp, or attacking vamp, or just Angel himself. HE’s a great iconic version of the figure, and I dig him!

TOY MONTH 2007: What is the Deal with Toys?

Grace, Peace, adn thanks to you for coming to read once again. I hope the following post is both educational and entertaining. If it is not, I blame only myself and invite you to blame me as well.

st-musings4.jpg

My mom recently said something that really struck me. I don’t remember the exact phrase, but it was along these lines, “I never realized that figures were such a big deal in this generation. It seems to be the new model railroading.” You know what, she’s right. I think that might be one of the best assessments of the hobby I have ever heard, and I think that’s great. It really is, because railroading has become a kind of American tradition and a validated and respected hobby.

Hears the thing, though. Collecting action figures is usually viewed as a lesser hobby. It is viewed as a childish waste, and it’s disheartening to me. The fact of the matter is, collecting figures is as legitimate a hobby as collecting trains, collecting sports or music memorabilia, or whatever else. The big argument and condescension comes from those who say, “Yeah, but all those other hobbies are from REAL bases–sports, train layouts, music. These are all REAL and ACTUAL things, not fantasy or make-believe. That’s where the legitimacy comes from.” Okay, you know what, whatever. Human history is a story; and franklly, fantasy and fiction are usually means of exploring and engaging real themes and concepts through another lense or filter. Fantasy and Fiction storytelling often help us understand things more than actal historic events do, becuase fantasy stories are able to make the historic and truths concise and more easily visible and relatable. Anyway, this is my site, I’m not here to defend myself, but I just wanted to get that off my chest.

Now that you know I feel the collecting Hobby is a valid one, here are some of my personal reasons for collecting. Another’s reasons may be different and some may think these are invalid reasons for a hobby. I’m not saying they should be any one else’s reasons, I am just saying they are mine:

(1) Memories/Reminders of beloved events and characters. In the same way sports memorabilia reminds fans of their favorite teams, plays, and atheletes, figures serve as a friendly and enjoyable reminder of the property on which they are based. Sports fans love when their teams have a great year or when their favorite players make historic plays. Figures serve the same purpose–only instead of sports teams it’s superero teams and crews of sci-fi startships and instead of plays its scenes or moments from beloved stories. Sometimes, these reminders can stir emotion or just remind an owner of why they love a character, movie, or moment so much. It’s nice.

(2) Figures are playable and fun. Like trains, Action figures are collectibles you can mess around with and enjoy on a hands-on level. How fun is it to transform Transformers? Or pose Star Wars Figures? Or play with legos? I know people find it silly; but it’s a fun and enjoyable pasttime– a pasttime which is creative and harmless. Also, for me as a screenwriter, it’s been (a) a great writing tool when developing scenes or action sequences (b) a great escape into the worlds in which I am writing, oftentimes offering a very tangible way for me to engage concepts and ideas in my mind. I know it sounds ridiculoous, but when I play with figures, I tend to create a new world or a new extension of an existing one wherein I make the rules and watch as my own story unfolds, sometimes subconsciously. It’s an excellent tool for writing and fun way of passing time. Yes, I do sound effects, and yes, I do different voices.

(3) Action figures are relatively cheap. Most action figures can cost you $8 a pop or $15 if you’re into the specialty market–some very high-end statue-like “figures” can run as high as $300, but that’s a very small niche market in the overall figure hobby. Overall, the hobby is relatively cheap, especailly when compared to other hobbies which can cost much more money. A video game can cost $40, a price at which you can get about 3 or four figures (depending on the price, of course). Tickets to sporting events, new locomotives are both more expensive as well. Like all things, this cost can add up; but under a reasonable budget, this hobby can be maintained and enjoyed for a relatively low cost considering how expensive hobbies like trains, sport-going, and video games can become (not that there is anything wrong with theses hobbies at all. If they are your hobby, more power to you!).

(4) Action Figures CAN be an interesting Hobby. I have made a very, very deliberate effort to have figures from a variety of sources on display in my corner of power (see articles on that, here, here, here, here, and here). I have tried to display figures from movies, television, and comics from a variety of genres in a variety of scales. My goal, to have a little something for everyone. I have a whole shelf dedicated for sci-fi, several displays from Action flics, figures from comics, and even characters from Disney. I do this because I would like to be able to use the wall/corner as an opener for discussion. Most people can find something on it they recognize or enjoy and its cool to have them comment, giving us an automatic point of common interest.

(5) Figures can create decor. Now, becuase I’m married, my ability to do this is limited; but figures as a motif in a room can be a very eye-catching and interesting means of decorating. I love going to homes wherein the moving-viewing area also has toys and memorabilia on display. It’s cool and really pulls a visitor into the space, making them excited about what they’re about to experience–in the same way a train layout or collection of sports memorabilia can do in a room as well.

Bottom line, I am not trying to downplay anyone else’s hobby. In fact, I encourage others who have hobbies different than my own. the only hobby I don’t encourage is giving people crap for their interests. So if that’s your hobby, we’re not friends. Everyone has the right to choose his or her own hobby based on his or her own interests and as long as it is not designed and inherently, directly damgaing to another person or the environment0, I support said hobby and fully encourage it. Sports, music, movies, toys, trains, posters, comics, clothes, scrap-booking, whatever your hobby is, I wish you the most possible satisfaction and pleasure from it. Figures is mine, and it is suiting me well!!!

TOY MONTH 2007: C.J.’s Customs: Rescue 3-pack!!

Rescue3-pack of Mal, Wash, & Book

From Firefly

fir3pckrescue1.jpg

Figure:
Malcolm Reynolds, Shepherd Book, Hoban “Wash” Washburn

Series:
FIREFLY/SERENITY

Recipe:
The Mal was made from A DST “Final Battle” Mal legs and head on a DST “Grave” Spike Torso and arms (painted with the wounds covered in super sculpty). The Shoulders are from the DST “Fool For Love Spike”.The Wash is simply a DST “Graduation Day” Angel painted blonde and wearing a “Doomed” Spike Shirt, as well as shoes swapped out from a Season 5 Angel figure. The Book is An X-men 1 Magneto Head, Jayne Cobb Body, and Season 5 Angel Lower Arms and Leg, with Season 4 Wesley handss. The figure is painted to match Book’s Skin tone and Shirt from the show.

Accessories:
Each figure came with a blaster of some kind and tow Serenity logo Bases were included.

Reasoning Behind The Effort:
I’m not a huge Firefly fan. To be honest, it is my least favorite corner of the Whedonverse. I won’t go into why, but I will say that the episode where Mal and Wash get tortured by Niska is amazing, and the rescue portion is one of my favorite TV fights. This set was a tribute to this.

fir3pckrescuebook.jpgfir3pckrescuewash2.jpgfir3pckrecuemal.jpg

Additional Thoughts
Sold on Ebay to help pay credit card bills, this set was a beloved sacrifice and is missed. It was awesome, and it will be awesome forever (until it breaks, then it will just be cool…just kidding) (FIGURES COMPLETED IN FALL OF 2006)

TOY MONTH 2007: MOST WANTED: NOT ANNOUNCED OR IN PRODUCTION

Grace, Peace, and Thanks to each and every one of you. I come to you with a large bag of candy, and I throw several pieces to you as if I was sowing seed in a field. I am a nice person.

(1) ROADHOUSE FIGURES. I want figures from Roadhouse. Roadhouse is not only my favorite action movie, it is one of my favorite movies ever!!! And I want figures from it. The line would best be realized in the 9″ highly-stylized work by Mezco. It’s partially cartoony but cool and fun. I’d want a two-pack of Dalton vs. JImmy from the their fight at the bridgee. A con/store exclusive Jeff Healy, and the basic line should include Dalton, Brad Wesley, Jimmy, and Wade Garrett.

roadhouse.JPG

(2) THEY LIVE TWO PACK: Jakks Pacific, NECA, or MEZCO, anyone who is into Roddy Piper or Cult Classics or anything, Please give fans these figures. We are aching for them. Seriously, a two pack of Keith David and Roddy Piper from their alley brawl. Include a board, and of course, a pair of glasses, and everyone will love it!!!!!

theylive.jpg

(3) R&B / Soul MUSIC FIGURES. We get plenty of Rap and rock figures, but what about the amazing mistros of R&B. I’m thinking an initial set could be Stevie Wonder on Ebonies and Ivories, and Michael Jackson in his thread from Thriller with variant zombie version. They could be just like the Rock figures from NECA and McFarlane, and they’d be awesome. The second wave could include Marvin Gaye and Isaac Hayes, and the third could Feature James Brown and The Reverend Al Green. Ray charles would obviously be in works also.

thriller.JPG

(4) MEMENTO’s LEONARD SHELBY. This figure, like the others, could be done in the NECA, McFarlane, or the Mezco style. I would want one in his beat-up beige suit and Light lue shirt with a gun, file, and notepad. A variant figure would be Leonard topless, with his various tattoos showing.

memento.JPG

(5) PULP FICTION FIGURES.
I realize that there were several sets of block figures released a few years ago, but I want a line of fantastic 6″ or 9″ figures with great likenesses and details. I think the first set should include Butch, Mia Wallace, Vince Vega, and Jules. The second should include Winston Wolf, The Drug Dealer, Marselles Wallace, and Tarantino’s Character. A 2-pack of Honey-bunny and “fonzi” from the diner should also get produced as well as a 5 figure boxset of Marselles, Butch, Zed, The Redneck, and the gimp. A Comic Con Exclusive of Vince and Jules in JImmey’s clothes or Christopher Walken in Military uniform should also be done.
pulpfiction.JPG

(6) LEGENDS OF CINEMA.
We have tons of monster figures, but I’m talking about the more human, larger-life-life characters of some of the most beloved films of all time. William Wallace from Braveheart, Maximus from Gladiator, and A Wesley vs. Inigo Montoya 2-pack from The Princess Bride!!! A Great second wave could include Andre the Giant from The Princess Bride, Travis from Taxi Driver, and Tyler Durden from Fight Club. We could also get Con exclusives of Jack from Fight Club and Vecinnni from The princess Bride. These figures would have to be done in the 6″ style so that they could stand alongside DIE HARD’s John McClain, the Highlander, and the many other figures in that scale. It’d be awesome!
braveheart.jpgtaxi-driver.JPGprincess-bride.JPGgladiator.jpg

(7) SNATCH. Yep. This cult classic deserves the figure treatment. The wave would give us such classsics as Turkish, Boris the Blade, BUllet Tooth Tony, and Mickey. Then we’d need a final fight Boxset, followed by a second wave including Brick Top, Tommy, Cousin Avi, Franky Four Fingers, and Doug the head. Then we’d need a follow-up boxset with Tyrone, Sol, and Vinny.

Toy Month 2007: C.J.’s Custom: “Primeval” Xander

”Primeval Xander”

From The Season Four Episode of the same name

whoops!
Figure:
“Primeval” Xander

Series:
BUFFY

Recipe:
Xander was made by placing a MAC Xander ornament head on a DC Direct Clark Kent body with different hands (from whom I do not remember). I then used Sculpty to better form the neck, and I painted theneck and face to match in skin tone.

Accessories:
Stake, two guns, Drums, and “Initiative” Base

Reasoning Behind The Effort:
Buffy Season 4 is my Second favorite season of Buffy, and I love “Primeval”—particularly because Xander is heroic and shoots a gun. I’m not gonna act as though I had some kind of high purpose for making this figure. I simply saw that the DC Direct Clark body perfectly matched the outfit Xander wore, and I had the ornament with Xan’s head, so it worked.

Additional Thoughts
This figure came out pretty good. It looked great next to the other DST releases, and I really like him. He was one of my earliest customs, and I sold it in the spring of 2005.(FIGURE COMPELTED IN FALL 2004)

TOY MONTH 2007: MOST WANTED: Prior Releases pt 1

Grace and Peace and thanks to you all. I go to a magical world and slay a unicorn. I stab it to death with its own horn and grill the meat for each of you. I then make you tacos using the said meat, and they are delicious.

Well, the title says it all, so I’ll get it to it. I’ll make each of these short and sweet. There are more I want, but here’s the ones I want most!

WARRIORS FIGURES: ANY AND ALL, FURIES, COCHISE, SWAN, AJAX, LUTHER, & CLEON: Warriors need to come out and play at my house, that’s all there is to it.

the-warriors.JPG

TOY BIZ LORD OF THE RINGS CAVE TROLL. Spear Thrusting action accompanied by a roar. I had this and sold it, and I was a fool for doing so as it may be the best product to come from the entire Toy biz line…Foolish, CJ. Foolish.

cave-troll.jpg

HASBRO VINTAGE ORIGINAL TRILOGY COLLECTION STAR WARS FIGURES: ALL: These are probably the only figures (other than those signed) that I would ever want to keep on card. The packaging is perfect and protective, the figures are wonderfully dispalyed, and they are a throwback to my childhood.
votc.JPG

SOTA SAGAT: I need him to Round out my Street fighter collection…that’s pretty much it.
sagat.jpg

EXOSQUAD JT MARSH and PHAETON: The Exosquad cartoon was awesome, but it was the Toys that really sold me on the property. The engineering behind these Playmates-produced figures and vehicles was amazing, and I think this may be in my top ten Toy lines of all time. These are the two main characters, and I would love to have a battle display of them duking it out!

exosquad.JPG

STAR WARS LEGO CLONE TURBO TANK, ANDROID ASSAULT, STAR DESTROYER, and CLONE WALKER. Okay, I didn’t love the abttle on Kashyyk in Star Wars Episode 3, but I did love the concept of it, and the Troopers from the fight are awesome–I have me a few of them already. Anywho, This is one of the battles from Star Wars I’d like to recreate in small scale at some point, so ta-da, I want some vehicles and droids from it. I also added the Star destroyer to this cause I really, really want a huge Star Destroyer.

sw-legos.JPG

RESERVOIR DOGS Mr. Brown. I have the other four figures from this set, but this stupid exclusive has eluded me for 5 years now. It’s a fun likeness of Quentin, and I would reall enjoy getting him to fill out the set! (I should really customize Eddie Bunker, Lawrence Tierney, and Sean Penn too).

TOY MONTH 2007: TOP 7: My Favorite Toy Lines

Grace, pease, and thanks to each and every one of you once again. I hope for your continual well-being and prosperity. if you’ve hit a rough time, listen to “Easy” by Lionel Richie. it’s impossible to feel bad whilst listening to that song.

What’s really funny about this Top 7 list is my top 3 took me about 15 minutes, and I struggled like mad to decide on the last 4. I love so many toys it’s ridiculous. As a result, there will be some significant honorable mentions below, alot of lines I really enojy and contemplated putting in the list; but hey, there can be only 7, in the Top 7.

(7) Jakk’s Pacific Rocky figures. Alright, I know the line is only half-out, but it is only getting better. not only have already gotten an Apollo Creed Figure, a Rocky Figure in gangster gear, a Mick, and of course my favorite character, DUKE; but I got Clubber Lang, Tunderlips, Ivan Drago, and Rocky in teh Stars and Stripes coming out me. With Referees, Women, Lame later villains, and more coming, this line will be impetuous–it’s defense, impregnable (if you don’t get that reference go HERE)

rocky-figs.JPG

(6) Mezco’s Captain Nemo. WHAT? WHAT IS THIS? well, I’ll tell ya. back in I think 2001-2002, somewhrere in there. Anyway, I don’t even know the real legend of Captain Nemo. I think he’s in some book. And i know he’s a character in Alan Moore’s League fo Extraordianry Gentleman. I don’t know who these toys were based on, and I don’t care. They are awesome toys. These were some great early products Mezco, and it saddens me there but two in the line. Other priates or sea beasts would have been nice, but hey, what I got was well worth every penny and even today, I cherish these figures!

nemo.JPG

(5) Playmates The Simpsons Line. I’ve been very lax and lazy when it came to this series; but lately, I’ve picked up the slack and got some hot figs–particularly Lenny and Carl. What’s great about this line is that it is ridiculously comprehensive. not since Star Wars has a figure line been so complete and perfect for the property on which it is based. Personally, I am not going to be a completist on it and try to get all bazillion figures (I don’t even do that with Buffy), but I am looking forward to picking up all my favorite characterfrom many of my favorite moments!! Right now, I am enjoying Grandpa, Captain McAllister (who may be the funniest character on teh show), Lenny, Homer in underpants, Milhouse, and more!!!
simspons.JPG

(4) SOTA Street Fighter: I am a big fan of the Street Fighter video game. It was one of those fads from childhood that I never got over, and now that I have disposable income, I never have to. State of the art Toys, or SOTA Toys, has made fully-realized, 6″ scale renditions of all my favorite characters, and a few of the lesser loved ones for them to beat up! The line looks fantastic from every angle-articualtion, sculpt, price, all of it. It’s just a fantastic line fo figures, and they display wonderfully, really drawing attention via their bright color schemes and interesting sculpts. I love this line!

street-fighter.JPG

(3) Buffy The Vampire Slayer/ANGEL: Okay, look, everyone can judge me all they want. I know some people don’t like Buffy or Angel, and that’s fine. Frankly, however, these shows rock my socks to the moon. I completely dig them from their mythology and characters to their jokes and fights. I just cannot get enough. Diamond Select Toys adn Moore Action Collectibles have blessed both myself and legion of other fans with a remarkably diverse and nearly comprehensive line of figures from these properties, and I’m sorry, but I cannot get enough of them. There’s always new characters from new moments or fights or seasons that I just need to have, and I am always ecstatic to get them. Not only that, but this line, more than any other has inspired my own creative juices and produced in my a ancillary hobby of collecting in customizing. I love my Buffy/Angel collection, and when i get a house witha toy room, these figure will get a wall of it. Plain and Simple.

buffy-series.JPG

(2) Star Wars 3 3/4″: Is their really explanation needed here. I grew up watching Star Wars. In fact, whenever I was sick, I would watch Return of the Jedi and set up all the toy spaceships, planes, and jets from whatever series I had and reenact my own rendition of the battle of Endor. Those were some of the greatest times I have ever had playing with toys; and even now, I look back on them with joyous wonder. How did I have that much fun when I was sick…Anyway, Star Wars toys have only gotten better since my youth, and collecting them now–in their precisely detailed goodness–is one of the most satisfying parts of my hobby. They still retain all the magic they did when I was but a child; and even now, I long to play.

star-wars.JPG

(1) G.I. Joe 3 3/4″: I have a confession to make. I don’t really buy G.I. Joes any longer. I want to, but I don’t. I have failed, and I’m sorry. This, however, doesn’t mean I have lost site of my love for the real American hero. On the contrary, I still scads of Joes, and I long for the day to disaply them in full glory. I give Buffy credit for getting me into customizing, but the Joes may actually deserve the trophy on that. I’ve been taking my G.I. Joes apart and switching their parts for years. I know, I know–maybe I shouldn’t have, but I did. And I got more love and play time out of them than probably any other toy line I have collected. You can ask my buddies from High School- HIGH SCHOOL–and they will tell you that I used to bring boxes/bags of Joe parts to sleepover, so I could build figs while we talked and played video games. It’s TRUE!!!! Then of couse, with the building comes the playing, and the development of new characters and worlds some which of I cannot even remember…Man, those days…good days indeed…I gotta hit up some more parts! (and the 25th anniversary figs hasbro is releasing thiis summer!) SPECIAL THANKS TO Yojoe.com for the pics!

TOY MONTH 2007: C.J.’s Customs: Season 4 Angel

Season 4 ANGEL

From my favorite Season of Whedon TV

acangelse4.jpg
Figure:
Season 4 Angel

Series:
Angel

Recipe:
The figure was really easy. I simply applied two full coats of paint to DST’s Season 5 Angel, making his shirt plain black rather than striped.

Accessories:
This Angel came with a bloody axe, a small axe, Wes’ Shotgun, A sword, a Knife, his soul, and the team’s weapon’s cabinet.

Reasoning Behind The Effort:
Season 4 of Angel is my very favorite Sesasn of Whedon TV. It just works incredibly well despite obvious off-the-cuff writing and development. It may not be the strongest season episode-by-episode, but the full season arc is outstanding given its ever-changing and developing dynamics. Oh, and “Rain of Fire” is one of the best episodes of Television ever. Anyway, this figure is my shout-out to Angel/Angelus during that Season. It’s a very standard Angel Figure, and it’s awesome.

Additional Thoughts
This was a favorite of mine. It’s relatively simple design made for light work, and he was just fun to have. He’s a great “Season” figure. He’s a nearly definitive Angel, especially since he has the removable jacket. He’s another one of my Basic Angel repaints, but he’s one of my favorites.
